MADISON, Wis. Yeezy 350 China . -- Three close looks at the bucket, three misses. Count out Marquettes maddeningly frustrating two-minute stretch to open the second half, and coach Buzz Williams believes his team would have had a much better shot at beating No. 8 Wisconsin. Only that the Golden Eagles didnt have an answer for Sam Dekker, the energetic sophomore who had 20 points and 10 rebounds to help the Badgers hold off a late rally for a 70-64 win in the latest entertaining contest between the intrastate rivals. Jamil Wilson scored 22 points, including a 3 from the wing that capped a 10-2 run to draw Marquette (5-4) within three. But Frank Kaminsky then nailed a straightaway 3 with 1:18 left for the Badgers (10-0), who are off to the best start in 20 years. "One stop. I said it as soon as I got in the shower -- one stop away. I said it to myself," Wilson said. "If we wouldve got one stop, or stopped one offensive rebound, just gotten one extra defensive rebound ... One stop and this game wouldve been ours." Williams remembers those early misses to start the second half. Wilson missed a layup. Point guard Derrick Wilson missed a floater. Center Chris Otule misfired on a bucket from less than a foot away. The hustling Badgers pounced for a 7-2 run that quickly extended their lead to eight points Timeout Marquette with 17:59 left. "In that sequence right there ... if you removed those two minutes, the rest of the way we outscored them by one," Williams estimated. Too many misses to overcome, though. Marquette had one last chance after 6-foot-8 Davante Gardner hit a 3 from the wing to get to 68-64 with 4 seconds left. Gardner had muscled his way to the bucket for most of his 16 points. But Josh Gasser closed it out with two foul shots. The Badgers were soon on their way to singing a school anthem in front of the student section to celebrate their first win over Marquette since a 69-64 victory in Milwaukee in 2010. Gasser finished with 10 points and sparked the Badgers with his trademark defensive hustle. "Ive always thought coach (Bo) Ryans teams were tough, and they were definitely the toughest team today," Williams said. Ben Brust added 13 points, 10 in the second half. The third member of Wisconsins dependable backcourt, Traevon Jackson, scored 12 after going 6 of 7 from the foul line after halftime, and added seven assists. Up front, Dekker puzzled the Golden Eagles with his inside-out game. He finished 7 of 11 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range. Advantage Badgers this year in Dekkers hometown of Sheboygan. "The citys pretty split, Marquette-Wisconsin-wise," Dekker said. "To have a chance to get a win tonight and also play well doing that is very gratifying." Dekker found the 7-foot Kaminsky for a dunk off an alley-oop pass early in the second half. Then Kaminsky returned the favour, connecting with his teammate for an alley-oop dunk for a 48-38 lead with about 10 minutes left in the game. Gasser tracked down a loose ball and drove the lane to draw defenders, only to pass to Dekker wide open from the corner for a 3 and an 11-point lead with about 8 minutes left. Dekker might be a go-to guy with the ball, but Gasser is just as important to Wisconsin for his ability to draw charges and guard an opposing teams best player. "Well, you know ... Josh Gasser. Now you guys are going to write that down -- its the shortest answer Ive ever given in the history of questions -- hes a leader," Ryan said. Marquette had experience and muscle in the frontcourt with Gardner, the 6-foot-11 Chris Otule (11 points) and 6-foot-7 Wilson. A 3-point play by Otule off an offensive rebound got Marquette within 57-51 with 3 minutes left. But until the late 3s from Wilson and Gardner, the Golden Eagles rarely took a shot from long range. Marquette played without perhaps its best 3-point shooter, Todd Mayo, who practiced this week but only watched Saturdays game from the bench for what Williams called a violation of team rules. CSKA received the heavier punishment of playing its next European home game behind closed doors, after its supporters displayed racist and far-right symbols in the Czech Republic during a 2-1 loss to Viktoria Plzen on Dec.LONDON - Two-time defending champion Novak Djokovic extended his indoor winning streak with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Marin Cilic Monday in his opening round-robin match at the ATP World Tour Finals, after Stan Wawrinka put his recent struggles behind him with an equally comfortable victory.Djokovic moved two wins away from sealing the year-end No. 1 spot, and improved his record against the U.S. Open champion to 11-0 with a dominant display that lasted only 56 minutes. The O2 Arena crowd was treated to several stunning rallies in the opening stages, with Djokovic coming out on top on every important point. The top-ranked Serb has now won his last 28 matches indoors, a streak going back more than two years.I give myself a lot of time to prepare for these events, for indoor tournaments. I enjoy them, Djokovic said. Considering how long the season is, everybody is mentally, physically, emotionally tired and exhausted. But this is where you have to find your last drop of strength and motivation to finish off the year in style. The top-ranked Serb will next take on Wawrinka, who made the most of Tomas Berdychs error-laced performance in a 6-1, 6-1 win earlier Monday.Djokovic read Cilics serve well and broke at love for a 4-1 lead after hitting two sumptuous forehand passing shots, then clinched the set after Cilic buried a backhand in the net. After dropping his serve immediately at the start of the second set, Cilic broke back to stay in the match but his resurgence was short-lived as Djokovic won the next four games. From my own side, its my first time being here, said Cilic, one of the three debutants in London. Also, I felt that Novak played really, really solid today. In some matches, the score just keeps running. You are thinking a lot. You are always trying to find something. But whatever you try, its not working.Djokovic, who is bidding to finish the season as No. 1 for the third time, will be guaranteed the top spot if he wins his remaining two round-robin matches against Wawrinka and Berdych. Yeezy 350 Store. Wawrinka was almost as impressive against Berdych, outclassing his Czech opponent with a range of backhand and volley winners. He was also aided by Berdychs abject display, as the sixth-seeded heavy hitter lost his opening match at the season-ending tournament for the fifth time in as many attempts.Unfortunately, it was my worst match of the whole season, and I kept it for the start here in the World Tour Finals, Berdych said. I did not feel anything good today.Wawrinka travelled to London with his form in question after winning only two matches since his quarterfinal exit at the U.S. Open, and struggling to play as freely as he did earlier this season. My recent losses really hurt me, said the Australian Open champion, who also won his first Masters title at Monte Carlo this year. But I kept working hard at training and I never panicked. I knew my game was there. It was more the mental side that I needed to improve.Wawrinka immediately put Berdych on the back foot, winning five consecutive games to take the first set after dropping only three points on his service games.Berdych, who had 20 unforced errors, fought harder at the start of the second set but dropped his serve after a tight third game and never recovered. When I feel good on the court, Im ready to beat anybody said Wawrinka, who had never lost just two games against a Top-10 opponent in 34 wins. But I did not expect to win so easily. After the round-robin stage, the top two finishers in each group will advance and Berdych has few illusions about his chances of progressing.Im in the worst possible situation that I can ever be, he said. Im going to face Marin or Novak first, in the end playing both of them, and the only chance to qualify is to beat them, its almost mission impossible.Wawrinkas strong display will also reassure the Swiss team ahead of the Davis Cup final against France from Nov. 21-23 in Lille, where he will be teaming up with Roger Federer.
